California (KSEE/KGPE) - Fresno Announcing that California now has a ground-breaking, global-leading plan to reach 100% zero-emission car sales by 2035, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the legislation on August 25.

The strategy will be carried out gradually. Three-quarters of all new cars sold in four years must be electric vehicles (EVs). By 2030, that need will rise to 68%, and by 2035, the target of 100% will be attained.

California mechanics have conflicting opinions regarding the state's strategy. Reuben Salcedo, owner of Reuben's Automotive in Madera, is unfazed by the new legislation.

Because so many gas-powered automobiles are still on the road, Salcedo isn't worried about his business. He argued the bill overlooks energy needs. Salcedo doesn't think there will be adequate power after September's heatwave.

The California Energy Commission estimates 8 million EVs in 2030 will contribute 1,000 to 5,500 megawatts to the grid.

Cal-ISO stated, "While these numbers in and of themselves probably don't pose a problem, the concern is more about when these vehicles charge and the impact to the overall load shape.

Electric cars could shift peak electricity demand hours, according to a Nature study. To fulfil future energy demands, drivers will need to charge at daytime charging stations instead of at home. To fulfil demand, the report expects increased grid storage.

Officials from Cal-ISO stated, "In the future, we foresee signals that will let consumers know when to charge and even when they may discharge to support the grid."

Salcedo also discussed what to do when EV lithium-ion batteries die. Salcedo can't recycle lithium-ion automobile batteries. Local stores can't recycle lithium car batteries, so they send customers to dealerships.
